The parallels between them are quite surprising and Motochika isn’t blind to the fact that their similarities extends beyond their eye-patches. It’s something he learnt when he had to travel with him on their way to Osaka. Although he has to admit it is annoying sometimes, especially when they have a disagreement over essentially the same thing. It interests him how a demon and a dragon could be rather alike. It’s because of this that he’s rather fond of the younger warlord and doesn’t mind keeping an eye out for him.
Date’s stubbornness does exasperate him, how on earth did he survive for that long when his people skills were that stunted? There’s a limit to much stubbornness he can stand and Date really pushed it when he was trying to get him to see just how destructive his actions were.

Also known as the Right Eye of the dragon. Motochika had minimal contact with the other man before they arrived in Death City, so most of his thoughts on the man had been formed here. Koujurou is clearly a capable man, possibly even stronger than some of them, but he seems to hold himself back because he is but Date’s Right Eye.
Motochika was actually the first person that Koujurou had ever tried resonating with. It was the most obvious sign that things with Date weren’t going well. Still he did what he could to try and help things between them. But now that he’s started to lean towards siding with the Western army there’s a bit of discomfort between them.

“My name is Yukimura Genjiro Sanada, the Young Tiger of Kai!”
Motochika doesn’t know him very well. Even though Takeda’s forces lead by Yukimura had helped him in his fight against the Toyotomi, he wasn’t in a position to see that and later circumstances meant that he didn’t learn of it until everything was well over. He’s only familiar with Yukimura’s older self and that is why he thinks of him not as the ‘Kai’s Tiger cub’, but as the actual Tiger itself, since in his time Yukimura has more than managed to prove himself..

Motochika doesn’t use ninja, but he can appreciate why they might come in handy. While they arrived together, he sees no reason to interact much with him.

“Where love presents itself, Maeda Keiji shows himself!”
Keiji is quite simply put, one of Motochika’s closest friends. It’s an unusual friendship for an unusual first meeting. Keiji gained his respect after fighting him to a draw and spending time with him after that merely cemented their friendship. They don’t always see eye to eye, Keiji is a pacifist and Motochika is a warlord seeking to unify the country under his name, but they’re willing to compromise and accept each their differences just to retain their relationship.
Keiji’s disappearance from Death City affected Motochika pretty badly and it’s only by telling himself that it would be safer for him back in Hi-no-moto that’s keeping him going. Knowing his friend, it wouldn’t have been good for him to be stuck in the city where there is no other option, but to fight this war anyway.
DEMON ODACHI (KOTOOHAJIME KAKU NO GOTOSHI) • MAKELOVENOTWARS

“Fear my genius.”
They’ve butted heads quite frequently over who laid claim to the Seto seas and so far neither of them have managed to get one over the other. Or so he thought. Mouri’s arrival made him realise that alternate versions of Hi-no-moto exist and he’s managed to manipulate Motochika into believing that they were allies and even friends. Still old habits are hard to break and while he has accepted Mouri’s version of events he’s still wary of him. Just because he’s from a different version of Hi-no-moto than the one he knows, it’s still technically the same man, in the same way he thinks he’s essentially the same person in this alternate Hi-no-moto even if he supposedly has different coloured eyes.

One funny thing to note is that Motochika doesn’t actually know Mitsunari’s full name. Ieyasu was the one who first to bring him up and he was referred to only as Mitsunari, even later in Mitsunari’s first post, he never introduced himself. This has since been rectified by Vergil calling out his name on Halloween.
Motochika knows that he has allied with the Western army in this alternate version and he believes there’s a reason for it other than just revenge. There had to be something he saw in Mitsunari and he thinks he knows what it is. He’s completely straightforward and Motochika believes he’s not as bad as he makes himself out to be. He just needs to work at it a little bit more to bring out more good traits in Mitsunari. Hopefully Mitsunari will give him the chance to try.

“May my fists unite all!”
He is yet another person who claims to know him from the alternate Hi-no-moto and to have made an alliance with Just how many alliances did he make?. He’s much friendlier and easier to get along than Mitsunari and Motochika found himself quickly warming up to the younger warlord. He’s afraid that he won’t be able to measure up to the version of him that Ieyasu knows so well and he was doing what he could to remedy that.
Mouri’s manipulations had left him wary of Ieyasu’s ‘true’ intentions, but he doesn’t want to let that mean the end of things between them. Motochika wants to confirm it for himself so he’s not going to just cut off all contact with him.

“Sharpen your claws, crows of Saika!”
She’s not Magoichi to him, but Sayaka. They go back far enough that it’s just not possible for him to call her by her new name. She was his childhood friend which means that she knows about his Himewako years. It’s a testament to how close they are that she hasn’t told anyone about it. It is one of the things that Motochika would prefer to keep hidden and it would be all too easy to blackmail him with it…
Motochika’s glad to see her again, a familiar face among the unfamiliar who call him their ally. And having arrived earlier than her, he’s willing to do what he can to help her get used to life in this strange new city.

Yet another ninja that Motochika doesn’t care much for. Although he has to admit this is a vast improvement from Takeda’s one. But a ninja is a ninja and he’ll need to keep his guard up around her. She lives only to serve the Warlord of Echigo and anything he says or does could be used to help the Uesugi.

Roy is his fellow eye-patch guy and boss. Motochika can appreciate that he’s got a tough job on his hands. Running a force as big and important as this isn’t easy. He’s clearly military, quite likely one of those types who find it hard to drop the act at the end of the day. Seen one too many battles and tries to keep people at a distance. He doesn’t know him well enough to say anything, so he’s glad to see that Roy’s got a group of good people with him.

“I thought Kyoto had the best sweets, but these are even better!”
Souji is also from the same country as him, but a little bit further into the future. But being a little bit further ahead doesn’t help in getting used to modern technology so they helped each other where they could to wrap their heads around everything. He seems like a friendly guy and yes, Motochika can tell a guy when he sees one, he’s very familiar with feminine looking males. A little eccentric if his tastes in food are any indication.

One thing Motochika didn’t think he’d find here is a fellow pirate. She’s pretty much the only person who’d understand what it means to sail on a ship.
